Scholarship Award

Due to its successful fund raising efforts, the Pine-Richland Baseball Boosters has been able to sponsor a Player Scholarship Award for the past three years.

The $500 award is based on academic excellence, and demonstrated traits of leadership, integrity and role model behavior. The player must:

1. Be a senior and member of the Pine-Richland Varsity baseball team.
2. Plan on attending a 2-year or 4-year college or technical school.
3. Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Interested seniors are asked to fill out an extensive application. Application questions and GPA’s are rated and assigned point values by a committee of 3 volunteer parents. The review process is coordinated by a non-voting facilitator.

We are pleased to announce the 2008 award recipient, Stephen Freehling. Stephen will be attending the Virginia Military Institute in the fall of 2008. Prior award recipients include Derek Schleiden (2007) who is currently attending the Air Force Academy and Mike Morgan (2006) who is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh.

The Boosters organization plans to continue this tradition of recognizing academic, teamwork, and leadership excellence through a Player Scholarship program.
